Acrylic Paint on Canvas, May 2016
Painting ignites in me a fascination to explore the deeper side of myself, and the need to express these emotions. Instead of a landscape or a specific setting, I wanted to display an image of a rather indescribable place in my mind. Here, my work is intended to convey the overwhelming feeling of the pressures of time. This rather paralyzing sensation that overcomes me allows my head to enter this place of tranquility, where time is slowed down to a stop, hence the floating, scattered numbers. With the use of lines, I wanted to give the painting the feeling of movement, which allows the viewer’s eyes to travel throughout the composition. I intentionally created a self-portrait to show the viewer exactly what I “see” when I experience this feeling of inner peace.
