Identity is the way of which a person is presented to others, as well as the person’s character. This may mean physical appearance, personality, values, and life choices. It is human nature for one to wish to explore their identity and it is extremely important that teenagers think about their identity so that they develop a deep understanding of who they are as a person and how they wish to grow. Furthermore, who a person is should not be determined by what they look like or the experiences they have. Although, a person’s appearance and experiences may somewhat reflect their emotional identity, the physical identity only makes up some, if not none at all, of who a person truly is. A person is made up of much more than their physical appearance and experiences, such as their values, beliefs, goals, motivations, and personality.
