Watercolour, 2016

I think that we as humans are quick to form judgments about others. We can easily judge others from what we see on the outside. We do not know about their secrets, their past and the challenges and obstacles they faced to reach where they are now.

I mainly used watercolours with two contrasting colours; orange and blue to convey a calm feeling. The deep blue represents the hidden identity of the figure. The brighter colours represent what she is trying to show to other people. The physical unraveling of the portrait reflects the mental state of the subject; she is lost and is looking for a place where she belongs. The figure looks two-dimensional but there is also a sense of depth shown.
