Streetsville SS Collective
The Exquisite Corpse Project
Acrylic on Cardboard, 2017
We, the Grade 12 visual arts class of Streetsville Secondary School, have created a collaborative artwork that encompasses the elements of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Our piece, although unified through the STEAM theme, is unique in the sense that each of us has created our own installment which contributes to the beauty of the artwork as a whole. Our, “Exquisite Corpse” uses the method of assembling distinctive ideas, which in our case forms a body, into one cohesive piece of movable art. Each head, torso and legs has a different story and intention behind it. Through our exquisite corpse, we find beauty and unity in STEAM.
Based on the Surrealist parlour game, students were challenged to create a work of art without consideration of the final form. For the Surrealists, unpredictability, chance, and collaboration all lend to the goal of disrupting the mind’s desire for order. And now we invite you to reconstruct the artwork as you would like. After all, STEAM is about how we as individuals each have the capacity to define and redefine the world around us.
